North Dakota history comes alive at Prairie Village Museum. As students explore more than 30 historic buildings and exhibit spaces, they discover how people lived, worked, traveled, learned, and built communities on the North Dakota prairie. Our self-guided tours give teachers and chaperones the flexibility to move at their group’s pace while helping students connect classroom lessons with real buildings and artifacts.

Students encounter stories of Indigenous peoples, homesteaders, immigrants, farmers, railroad workers, merchants, and families who shaped Central North Dakota. Exhibits include Native American artifacts, antique automobiles, tractors and farm machinery, household items, an iron lung, and the story of Clifford Thompson, “The Scandinavian Giant.” Scavenger hunts and other educational activities may be available upon request.
